Your musicality – Musical ensembles and groups

There are many music ensembles in the school ranging from small to large scale ensembles.

Chapel Choir

Chapel Choir is open to singers at an intermediate to advanced level by audition.

Chapel Choir is open to singers at an intermediate to advanced level by audition. This is run by Mr de Voil on a Wednesday evening 5.45pm – 6.45pm and Fridays 4.30pm – 5.30 pm.  The Chapel Choir perform every Sunday as part of the regular chapel services, sing concerts, and tour internationally.

The Wellingtones

The Wellingtones are close harmony groups which are open to singers by audition only.

Mr Williamson runs the Wellingtones and these rehearse on a Thursday at 6.00 – 6.45pm and on a Friday 5.15 – 6.00pm in the Music school.

Symphony Orchestra

The Symphony Orchestra is directed by Ms Natalia Luis-Bassa on a Monday afternoon at 4.45 – 6.00pm with sectional rehearsals on Wednesday afternoons at 4.45pm. Pupils should be Grade 7 and above and may be auditioned. The Symphony Orchestra perform in concerts each term playing a major role in Speech Day. .

Concert Band

The Concert Band is open to wind, brass and percussion players of Grade 5 standard or above.

The Concert Band is open to wind, brass and percussion players of Grade 5 standard or above.  Rehearsals are every Wednesday from 5.00 – 6.00pm in the Old Gym. Their repertoire consists of symphonic, popular and jazz music. On a yearly basis, Concert Band plays for the Remembrance Ceremony to the whole school and gives several major concerts.

Bugle Corps.

Bugle Corps is run by Mr Heeley at 3.15 – 4pm on Wednesday afternoons in the Wind Annexe.  This is open to trumpet players of an intermediate to advanced standard. Trumpet players train how to play all the traditional bugle calls on college bugles including the Last Post and Reveille. They perform on Remembrance Day and Remembrance Sunday and also at military inspections and college events and parades.

 Wellington Jazz Band

The Wellington Jazz Bans is open to musicians of an advanced standard.  Rehearsals take place on Wednesdays 8.00 -8.45pm in Concert Room and is run by Mr Heathcote and Mr Heeley.

 Singer Songwriters Band

The Songwriters is a group that is open to anyone with an interest in Popular music and the craft of songwriting. Third form pupils meet on Wednesday at 4.30pm and 4th form pupils  Thursday at 4.30pm in the Shabby Road studio  to explore the links between lyrics, melody and harmony; hone their writing; and develop their performance skills. Members of the group record regularly and also perform at college events, such as the V&A Sessions.   The sessions are led by Mr Burrage.

Chamber Music

We have many chamber music groups which are open to musicians of a more advanced standard by invitation.

These groups include string quartets, string quintets, string trio, wind quintets, a saxophone quartet and a trombone quartet just to name a few. These happen at various times throughout the week and are based around the music school.

Corps of Drums (Junior & Senior)

Corps of Drums are run by Mr Smith and Mr Proctor at 2.30 – 3.45pm on Wednesday afternoons.

This is open to drummers of an intermediate to advanced standard. They perform on Remembrance Sunday and at the Royal Military Academy in Sandhurst and at the British Military Tournament at Earls Court on a yearly basis.
